- Beta-glucans (enzymatic)
- Beta-glucans by an enzymatic method such as the Megazyme mushroom and yeast kit, with alpha-glucan (starch) reported separately.
- Polysaccharides
- Total polysaccharides by phenol-sulfuric acid or similar; this counts starch too, so it reads high for grain-grown products.
- Triterpenes
- Total triterpenes by UV or ganoderic acids by HPLC for ethanol and dual extracts.
- Identity
- Microscopy, HPTLC fingerprint or DNA barcoding to confirm Ganoderma species and fruiting body versus mycelium.
- Heavy metals
- Lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury by ICP-MS; fungi take up metals from substrate.
- Microbiology
- Total plate count, yeast and mold, E. coli and Salmonella.
