Mango butter
Mango butter is the fat extracted from the kernels inside mango stones, Mangifera indica, mostly in India. Kernels are dried and the fat is pressed or solvent-extracted, then refined and often fractionated to a harder stearin. It is a soft to firm fat rich in stearic and oleic acids. Brands buy it for cosmetics such as body butters and lip balms, and food makers use mango kernel stearin in cocoa butter equivalent blends.
Suppliers sell different products under the same name. Specify the one you need.
Refined, bleached and deodorized butter with a pale color and little odor, the main cosmetic grade.
Butter with more color and a faint odor, used in natural cosmetics.
The harder fraction, used in cocoa butter equivalent blends for confectionery.
Butter from certified organic kernels.
Mango butter blended with liquid oils to make a softer, spoonable butter.
Compare each result with your own specification when the lot arrives.
Store sealed in a cool, dry place away from light and heat; it softens in warm storage and can turn grainy after melting and resetting. Shelf life is set by the supplier specification, with free fatty acids and peroxide value retested on aged stock.
Record grade (refined, unrefined, fractionated) and extraction method for each lot. Hardness varies by lot, so check melting point when texture matters.
